Flat pedal MTB shoes are different to other types of MTB shoes. The choice of the MTB shoe depends on the pedal and vice versa, these two factors are inseparable. The sole of one of the flat pedal shoes is of moderate stiffness: stiff enough not to slip on the pedal but flexible enough to grip the pedal well. The sole must then be thick enough to provide stability, while remaining thin enough not to interfere with support and feel. The type of rubber that makes up the sole is also an important factor in choosing your flat pedal mountain bike shoe. If you want a shoe with good grip, choose a firmer rubber. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a more comfortable shoe, lean towards a soft sole, taking the risk that the rubber will absorb some of your energy when you pedal.
