Fleeces: the role of the midlayer when skiing
The ideal ski or snowboard outfit is generally comprised of three layers: women's thermal underwear, a midlayer and a women's ski jacket. The second one plays an essential role and Snowleader invites you to find out more about it in this section. As it happens, the midlayer retains heat but allows perspiration to evaporate. Fleeces, vests, pullovers... all this women’s technical apparel can act as midlayers. Brands, including Patagonia, Schöffel and Craft, have created fleeces specially designed for this purpose, which are particularly well suited to skiing or any other activity in the high mountains.
Fleeces and ski jackets: how do you choose your midlayers?
Before anything else, you must choose your fleece’s thickness. For intense activities which cause you to perspire a lot, you’ll need to go for a lightweight design which will allow sweat to escape more effectively. You will also move around more freely during your activities. For leisure skiing or a simple hike, try to go for a fleece, or an intermediate to thick ski jacket. Then, you’ll be properly protected against the cold even if your activity is less intense. Another thing not to forget is that a midlayer needs to be worn close to your body for better heat retention. So, it’s best to choose a design which is adjusted to your body type.
