Telemark skiing is often described as a hybrid between cross country skiing and alpine skiing – the heel is free as with cross-country skiing, but downhill skis are often used. From this method of skiing, a whole new technique emerged. Telemark skiers enjoy the freedom and fluidity of a detached heel while making their turns, giving them the iconic crouched stance of the telemark turn.
