The Vibram Mulaz sole provides excellent grip and precision. The crampons also provide good grip on all types of terrain.
The Friction U also benefits from a semi-rigid sole block that allows it to maintain good stability on technical terrain. Finally, the lacing close to the tip of the toes allows for maximum support of the foot for optimal precision.
