The handle is made of varnished oak wood to protect it from moisture and dirt. The wood is hard and very resistant, especially to insects and fungi, thanks to its high tannin content.
The thin and robust Yatagan blade is made of modified Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel , known for its sharpness and ease of maintenance. The black finish on the blade and ferrule is obtained thanks to a specific surface treatment, reinforcing the hardness and the resistance to corrosion, and conforming to food contact.
This model is equipped with the Virobloc double safety system, allowing the blade to be locked in the open or closed position.
This knife is useful for all your daily manual work, when camping or during your nature activities, and fits in every pocket to accompany you on all your adventures.
As a gift or for yourself, this is definitely a quality product with character.

Sandvik stainless steel |
The Sandvik modified 12C27 stainless steel developed for Opinel is renowned for its sharpness and ease of maintenance. Stainless steel that can undergo the heat treatment that gives it its hardness is called martensitic. It has a carbon content of at least 0.40% giving the blade sharpness and corrosion resistance. |
Yatagan Blade |
The traditional blade of the Opinel is called Yatagan. Its shape is inspired by a Turkish sword with a raised tip. The blade is ground to an exclusive cambered profile which guarantees the strength of the blade and allows for efficient resharpening. |
Virobloc safety ring |
Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to all closing knives from N°06 onwards. Cut from stainless steel, the Virobloc consists of two parts: a fixed and a sliding part. This system allows the blade to be locked in the open position (safety in use), or closed (safety in transport). |
