Snow Study Kit -
The Snow Study Kit from BCA is a complete kit designed for snow study and avalanche safety training. Developed in collaboration with American instructors, it gathers the necessary equipment to practice observing and analysing the various characteristics of the snowpack, both during courses and for independent use.
The kit notably includes a Slope Meter to measure slope angle and a Polycarbonate Crystal Card with a ruler and grid graduated every 2 mm for classifying snow crystals. It also features an analog thermometer operating from -40 to 70°C, a 15x magnifying glass with wind-protected edges, and a 2 m ECT rope equipped with knots every 25 cm and two aluminium teeth to facilitate measurements in snow and ice.
Stored in a compact pouch, the Snow Study Kit allows you to practise data collection and recognise the different states of snow. A practical solution to develop your knowledge and learn to make the right decisions when facing avalanche risks.

The Snow Study Kit contains the following items:
- Slope Meter: this inclinometer allows you to measure the slope angle, from 0 to 60°. It can be easily attached to a strap.
- Polycarbonate Crystal Card: this card includes a ruler and a grid graduated every 2 mm to classify and identify snow crystals. Its translucent blue colour provides greater clarity.
- Analogue thermometer: operating from -40 to 70°C, it is highly accurate and calibratable for greater precision. It allows you to measure the temperature of your snowpack and observe the evolution of its different layers.
- 15x magnifying glass: this powerful magnifier is closed on the edges for better wind protection and allows detailed observation of crystals for improved snowpack analysis. The glass is scratch-resistant.
- ECT rope: with knots every 25 cm, this 2 m rope features 2 aluminium teeth in the middle to cut through snow and ice for easier measurements. It allows isolating a snow column to study its behaviour (Extended Column Test). Two handles at the ends make sawing easier.
