With over 140 years of innovation, the Norwegian brand Helly Hansen offers a complete range of skiwear, hiking gear, and thermal clothing for men and women to tackle extreme conditions in the mountains or at sea. Whether you're looking for high-performance Helly Hansen ski jackets, durable Helly Hansen ski pants, or warm Helly Hansen fleece jackets, you'll find the perfect gear to stay dry, warm, and protected thanks to Helly Hansen's expertise.
Founded in 1877 in Moss, Norway, by sea captain Helly Juell Hansen, the brand is a pioneer in waterproof clothing. Initially designed for sailors (using linen impregnated with linseed oil), Helly Hansen thermal clothing is built to withstand harsh conditions (rain, wind, cold). Innovation has been constant. From the introduction of Helox (PVC) in 1949 to the development of Lifa® Stay Dry Technology in the 1970s and the Helly Tech® membrane in the 1990s, the brand has continually innovated. Its Norwegian heritage gives the brand a unique authenticity and a reliability endorsed by mountain guides.
Experience in extreme conditions translates into a strong commitment to sustainability and eco-design. Helly Hansen clothing is renowned for its longevity, capable of withstanding intensive use. The brand is increasingly using recycled materials in its Helly Hansen down jacket and fleece ranges, ensuring both technical performance and environmental responsibility.
Helly Hansen offers a wide range of technical outdoor clothing for men and women, suited to every activity. For skiing and snowboarding women's ski jackets and men's ski jackets, men's ski pants, and women's ski pants are designed for waterproofing and breathability on the slopes. For mountain hiking, softshell jackets, lightweight fleece jackets, women's hiking apparel and men's hiking apparel are perfect for strenuous activity. For lifestyle and urban fashion, Helly Hansen parkas and down jackets combine minimalist Scandinavian style with optimal protection for everyday wear.
The Helly Tech® membrane is at the heart of Helly Hansen ski jacket performance. Available in Performance, Protection, and Professional versions, it guarantees waterproof protection against snow, wind, and heavy rain. These garments are constructed with fully taped seams to prevent any water from seeping in. Furthermore, the membrane provides excellent breathability to wick away excess heat generated during activity, keeping you comfortable and dry inside your Helly Hansen jacket.
Choosing your Helly Hansen ski jacket should be based on your activity level. For very cold, stationary days (recreational skiing), opt for models with enhanced insulation. If you're into high-intensity activities (freeriding, ski touring), choose a jacket with a Helly Tech® Professional membrane and lightweight or removable insulation to enjoy the freedom of layering. Helly Hansen's men's and women's specific models offer cuts tailored to different body shapes, optimizing insulation and freedom of movement.
Helly Hansen stands out thanks to three essential technological pillars, forged by its experience at sea and in the mountains:
To ensure the longevity and effectiveness of the waterproofing (DWR), follow the instructions on your Helly Hansen jacket's care label. Use a special technical detergent for membranes and wash at a low temperature. Never use fabric softener, as it clogs the pores of the Helly Tech® membrane, reducing breathability. Air drying is recommended.
For intense cold, opt for Helly Hansen down jackets or jackets equipped with a high-performance insulation system (such as Primaloft). It's crucial to combine this with a Lifa® base layer to manage moisture and a fleece mid-layer to trap heat. The size guide provides information about the jackets and their specific features.
Lifa® is the base layer that manages moisture by wicking away perspiration from the body. Helly Tech® is the outer membrane that blocks water and wind, protecting against the elements. The two technologies are complementary: Lifa® manages internal moisture, Helly Tech® manages external moisture.
